Sensitive matters, handled with care and strength

Family disputes are personal and painful. You need a lawyer who protects your rights and your interests firmly, but handles the matter with discretion and without inflaming it further.

Family and personal law covers some of life’s hardest moments โ€” the breakdown of a marriage, a fight over children, the safety of a woman facing violence, or dividing what a loved one left behind. Each is governed by specific laws and procedures, and the right approach protects both your legal rights and your peace of mind.

We handle divorce (contested and mutual consent), maintenance and alimony, child custody and guardianship, domestic violence protection, and wills and succession โ€” always with confidentiality, and always aiming for the least damaging path to a fair outcome for you.

Family, women & personal law โ€” frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mutual consent and contested divorce?

In a mutual consent divorce, both spouses agree to separate and to the terms (maintenance, custody, property), making it faster, cheaper and far less painful. A contested divorce is filed by one spouse on specific grounds when there’s no agreement, and it takes longer. Where possible, we help convert a dispute into a fair mutual settlement.

Can I claim maintenance from my spouse?

Yes, a spouse (most often the wife, and in some cases the husband) and children can claim maintenance for their support. Interim maintenance can be granted during the case itself, and the amount depends on the paying spouse’s income and the claimant’s needs. We help you claim a fair amount or defend against an excessive claim.

How is child custody decided?

The single guiding principle is the welfare of the child, not the ‘rights’ of either parent. Courts consider the child’s age, needs, and the ability of each parent to provide a stable, caring environment; custody may go to one parent with visitation for the other. We build your case around the child’s genuine best interests.

I’m facing domestic violence โ€” what protection does the law give me?

The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 gives you strong, fast remedies โ€” protection orders to stop the abuse, residence orders so you can’t be thrown out of the home, and monetary relief. If you are in danger, act immediately; we can move urgently for protection. This is a sensitive matter, and if you are in immediate danger please also contact the police or a helpline.

Why should I make a will?

A clear, valid will ensures your property goes to the people you choose and prevents bitter succession disputes among heirs after you’re gone. Without one, your estate is distributed under default succession laws, which may not reflect your wishes. We draft a legally sound will and can also help with probate and succession certificates.

Will my family matter be kept confidential?

Yes. Family matters are deeply personal, and we handle every case with complete discretion. What you share with us stays with us, and we conduct the matter in a way that protects your privacy and dignity as far as the process allows.

Do you encourage settlement over a long court fight?

Where a fair settlement is genuinely possible, yes โ€” it usually saves years of time, significant cost, and enormous emotional strain, especially where children are involved. But we never push you into an unfair compromise; if your rights require a firm contest, we fight it fully.
