ITR Filing Last Date FY 2025-26 – Every Deadline That Matters
For income earned in FY 2025-26 (1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026), your return is filed in AY 2026-27. Deadlines differ by taxpayer type, and missing them costs late fees, interest and lost loss carry-forwards. Check your date below, then file early.

ITR Deadlines for FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27)
Salaried individuals and non-audit businesses: 31 July 2026. Businesses and professionals requiring audit: 31 October 2026. Transfer-pricing cases: 30 November 2026. Belated or revised returns: 31 December 2026, with late fees and restrictions.
However, dates can be extended by CBDT notification, as happened in earlier years. We track notifications and file our clients well before the rush, because portal slowdowns near deadlines are routine.
Keep These Ready to File

What Happens If You Miss the Date
Consequence 1 — Late fee
Section 234F levies ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if income is under ₹5 lakh) the moment you cross the due date.
Consequence 2 — Interest
Section 234A interest at 1% per month runs on unpaid tax from the due date.
Consequence 3 — Lost carry-forwards
Business and capital losses cannot be carried forward in a belated return — often the costliest hit.
Consequence 4 — Final cut-off
After 31 December 2026, only ITR-U (updated return) remains, with additional tax of 25-50%.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the last date for salaried employees for FY 2025-26?
31 July 2026, unless CBDT extends it. Filing earlier is safer: refunds process faster, and you keep time to fix AIS mismatches. Extensions are never guaranteed, so do not plan around one.
Can I still file after 31 July 2026?
Yes, a belated return until 31 December 2026 — with the Section 234F late fee, 234A interest, and no carry-forward of most losses. After that, only the ITR-U route remains, which adds 25-50% extra tax.
Which regime is better for me, old or new?
It depends on your deductions. Heavy 80C/80D/home-loan users often save under the old regime; most others now save under the new. We compute both before filing, so the choice is arithmetic, not guesswork.
I have foreign income or ESOPs. Does my deadline change?
The date stays the same, but disclosure requirements rise sharply — foreign assets go into Schedule FA, and errors attract severe penalties under the Black Money Act. Professional filing is strongly advised in these cases.
